During the panel «Realize our visions», the directors and producers Yuliana Barco and Betsabé Bautista shared their experience in film productions and the complications of doing it as a woman.

They both addressed the issue of gender in their work and considered that greater participation of women in the industry is needed.

“I initially got in this world as an actress, but when I played the roles I didn’t feel identified with the way the directors portrayed the woman, so I decided to start telling my ideas, my visions, the stories I had in my head”, said Barco.

On the other hand, Betsabé, from Nayarit, who has also specialized in community film commented on the incredible growth that film has had in that state, despite the lack of schools and the importance for Mexico to reflect its own stories of the community to the world.

«When I ask the boys what is their ideal place to live, they always answer me that New York, Paris, Rome… and I realize how important film culture is to the idea that we make of those places. Similarly, we should tell the stories of our place of origin», reflected Baptist.
