International Career Achievement Tribute

Claire Denis

Before enrolling into the Institute des Hautes Études Cinématographiques, she started her career out as a photographer. In 1972 she graduated and worked as an assistant director for Jacques Rivette, Costa Gavras, Wim Wenders and Jim Jarmusch, among others.

Her first feature film “Chocolat” (1988) was selected to compete at Cannes Film Festival. Since then, she has made approximately 13 feature films that have consolidated her as the most important contemporary french director.

Pierre-Henri Deleau

Born in 1942 in France, Pierre-Henri Deleau is a festival director. He is the co-founder and was the general director of the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes from 1969 to 1998. He is also the co-founder and was the general director of the International Festival of Audiovisual Programs (FIPA) in Biarritz from 1987 to 2009.

Since 1990 he is the artistic manager of the International Historical Film Festival of Pessac. Deleau has been an assistant director for Jacques Doniol-Valcroze and Pierre Kast and he has also produced films for Claude Miller and Hugo Santiago. He has been a member of the jury in various international festivals, including Berlín, Venecia, Río de Janeiro, Montreal and Chicago, among others.

Jorge Perugorría

Perugorría began his work as an actor in Cuba at the age of 17. In a time span of 10 years, he starred in numerous works of the Universal Classical Theater and the Cuban Popular Theater. His film career began in 1993 when cuban director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea chooses him to play the role of “Diego” in Fresa y chocolate, the first Cuban film nominated for the Oscars in 1994, leading to the rise of his career in international cinema.. Hence he has received numerous acting awards. Until this day, his filmography is composed of fifty titles.

He has been a member of the Jury at the Gijón Film Festival for the Official Selection in the category of Feature Films. He has also been a jury at the Mostra de Cine de Valencia, at the Huelva Film Festival, Orense Film Festival, Lleida Film Festival, Gramados Film Festival, Film Festival Cine de Cancún, Amazonas Film Festival and in 2012, Official Short Films Jury at the 52nd Film Festival of Cartagena de Indias.

Patricio Guzmán

Patricio Guzmán has been recognized in multiple occasions for his work in cinema. He has made 13 documentaries and 9 short films, he has also written 2 books, 29 articles and received multiple awards, such as the Pablo Neruda Medal for artistic merit, the Altazor Prize for the Arts, and the Prix Scam of the Society of Authors of Paris, for his entire work.

In 2013 he was invited to be a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood. His movies have premiered at the most important film festivals in the world; In addition, in 1997 he founded the International Documentary Festival of Santiago de Chile.

Marisa Paredes

Spaniard with an outstanding theatrical and cinematographic career, which was also developed in countries like France and Italy. Her international and massive recognition among the spaniard public came from working alongside Pedro Almodóvar, who turned her into an “Almodóvar girl”; Hence she got leading roles in films like Tacones lejanos or La flor de mi secreto. For her work in this last film, she was nominated for the Goya Award for Best Leading Actress. She continued collaborating with Almodóvar in Todo sobre mi madre (1999), Hable con ella (2002) and La piel que habito (2010).

Almodóvar gave her entrance into the international market and therefore Paredes had the honor of working with renowned directors of the european cinema and in very emblematic productions such as La vida es bella by Roberto Benigni and Profundo Carmesí by Arturo Ripstein.

Gerardo Herrero

Gerardo Herrero is a spaniard film director, screenwriter and producer. He obtained his first critical and public success with Guantanamera (1995), by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabío, a comedy filmed in Cuba about a family that must travel throughout the whole island to bury, in their hometown, their recently deceased aunt. His directorial debut was Malena es un nombre de tango (1996), based in a novel by Almudena Grandes.

He presided over the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences of Spain; he is a founding member of the Escuela de Cine de la Comunidad de Madrid and a promoter of the Ibermedia Program, a fund for the development of the Ibero-American audiovisual industry. Beginning in 1997 until 1999, he was president of the Federation of Spanish Film Producers Association and until 2001, general secretary of the Ibero-American Federation of Cinematographic and Audiovisual Producers.

National Film Board of Canada

It is a public organization in Canada which aims to produce and distribute films to promote their country around the world. The NFB is recognized for its documentaries and animated short films, many of which have won the Academy Award.

Bruce Beresford

He is an australian film and opera director, a writer and a producer with a solid career of over thirty years. Beresford is a representative of the Australian New Wave and one of the filmmakers who personifies the renovation of cinema in his native country by setting the foundations and cinematographic identity that represent the current Australia.

Some of his most acclaimed movies are Driving Miss Daisy, awarded with four Oscars, including Best Picture, among numerous recognitions such as the Silver Bear, BAFTA’s Best Actress award, three Golden Globes and other thirteen more awards. The list also includes other outstanding films like Breaker Morant (1980), Black Robe (1991), Doble Jeopardy (1999) and Tender Mercies (1983).

Cecilia Roth

Born in Argentina. She began her career as an actress at her native country and then moved to Spain. Some of her most distinguished films are Un lugar en el mundo and Martín (Hache), both directed by Adolfo Aristarain, as well as Todo sobre mi madre, directed by Pedro Almodóvar.

She has won two Goya awards.

Tommy Lee Jones

He is an actor who does not stop before genres or narrative tones: a professional in all the extension of the word. Tommy Lee Jones has an intense, unpredictable and surprising film and television career.

Tian Zhuangzhuang

Tian Zhuangzhuang, first started his career out as a photographer and documentalist filmmaker working for the Beijing Agricultural Film Studio. In 1982, he graduated from the Beijing Film Academy and since then has made some of the most profound and moving films of recent chinese cinema such as Delamu, El maestro del go and Primavera de una infidelidad.

Marlene Dietrich

Actress and singer born in Germany, but american nationalized.She is considered as one of the most eminent myths of the seventh art thanks to her roles in films such as El ángel azul (first sonorized European film), Morocco and Desire.

The American Film Institute named her the ninth best actress of all time.

Mexican Career Achievement Tribute

Bertha Navarro

Bertha Navarro began her career directing documentaries, but after a short period of time she started working as a film producer. In 1973 she produces Reed, Mexico Insurgente, one of the first independent films in Mexico, winner of the Georges Sadoul Award in Cannes. Bertha Navarro has also produced very important films in the history of Ibero-American cinema, including El Laberinto del Fauno.

Since 1993 she coordinates the script lab in collaboration with the Sundance Institute, dedicated to elevating the quality of scripts written in spanish, and since 2009 she too coordinates the Music for Film lab, also in collaboration with the Sundance Institute, and the Actor-Director lab, with the support of the Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía, la Secretaría de Cultura, la Cátedra Bergman, among others.

Dolores Heredia

Dolores Heredia is an actress, producer and activist who is, both, recognized and respected in Mexico. In 1993 she participated as an actress in Dos crímenes, a film that earned her the award of Best Actress at the Film Festival of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, and that also nominated her for Best Supporting Actress at the Mexican Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences.

In 1999, the film Santitos was premiered at Sundance, winning the prize for Best Latin American Film at the Sundance Festival. The films Ciudades oscuras and Enemigos íntimos, both directed by Fernando Sariñana; El cobrador, by Paul Leduc; Vantage Point, by Peter Travis; Rudo y cursi, by Carlos Cuarón; A better life, by Chris Weitz and Días de gracia, by Everardo Gout. Up until today, she has worked in over 40 feature films. In television she performed for HBO Latino: Capadocia (I, II and III season). Due to her recognized experience, she has been invited to be a member of the jury in several international film festivals.

Luis Mandoki

Luis Mandoki is a filmmaker who has wandered through the wide spectrum of filmmaking: from his upbringing in documentary filmmaking and production of short films, to the Hollywood studios, and contemporary Mexican cinema. He has directed international actors, exposed mexican stars to the world, and discovered talents. In the essence of his work is guided by a deep moral sense, of denunciation and hope for a better world.

In 1980, his film El secreto won the Ariel award for Best Short Film and a few years later, he was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his film Gaby: A true story, starring Liv Ullman. This achievement allowed him to be the first mexican director, in many years, to open a significant path in Hollywood.

Arturo Ripstein

Arturo Ripstein y Rosen was born in Mexico City. He obtained the National Prize of Sciences and Arts in the area of Fine Arts in 1997, he is the second filmmaker to have achieved it (the first one was awarded to Luis Buñuel). In 2014, the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CONACULTA) recognized him in 2013 with the Fine Arts Medal for his 50 years of experience; He also received the Golden Ariel.

In 1965, at the age of 21 years old, he made his directorial debut with the film Tiempo de Morir – a script written by Carlos Fuentes and Gabriel García Márquez that was turned into a western. In 1968 he made an adaptation of Elena Garro’s novel, Los Recuerdos del Porvenir. In the seventies he consolidated himself as a director by making three films that are considered to be the most important movies in contemporary Mexican cinema: El Castillo de la Pureza (1972), El Lugar Sin Límites (1977) and Cadena Perpetua (1978).

Daniel Giménez Cacho

He is one of the most emblematic faces of Mexican cinema. His work has established him as one of the key actors in the national industry with a career and talent that transcends borders. In 1988 he made his film debut with Camino Largo a Tijuana, by Luis Estrada. In 1991 he starred in Solo con Tu Pareja, by Alfonso Cuarón and the following year in Cronos, by Guillermo del Toro, the latter earned him his first Ariel award, as best supporting actor.

Throughout his prolific career, Giménez Cacho has also worked in theater and television: he has participated in more than 35 plays and has been directed by Juan José Gurrola, Ludwik Margules, John Malkovich, Hugo Hiriart, Antonio Serrano and Jesusa Rodríguez , among many others. Thanks to his outstanding work, talent and career, Daniel Giménez Cacho is undoubtedly one of the pillars of the mexican industry.

Ignacio López Tarso

Senior mexican actor. In cinema, he has participated in 50 films such as Macario, El Hombre de Papel, El Gallo de Oro, La Vida Inútil de Pito Pérez, Nazarín, La Cucaracha, Tarahumara, La Rosa Blanca, Bajo el Volcán, Tirano Banderas, Pedro Páramo, etc. He has worked with directors such as Luis Buñuel, Roberto Gavaldon, Ismael Rodríguez, Julio Bracho, Luis Alcoriza, Jorge Fons, John Huston, and Miguel Sabido. His career in television includes more than a thousand unitary programs, series and soap operas such as La Tormenta, El Carruaje, Senda de Gloria,Imperio de Cristal, Esmeralda, Ángela, La Casa en la Playa, La Esposa Virgen, Peregrina, El Pantera, Mañana es para Siempre, Mar de Amor, El Encanto Del Águila, and Corazón Indomable.

In television, he has also worked with directors such as T Luis Aragón, Salvador Novo, Raúl Araiza, Martha Luna, Beatriz Sheridan, Karina Duprez, Roberto Gómez Fernández, Lili Garza, Arturo García Tenorio, Eric Morales, Miguel Corcega, Gustavo Loza, Alejandro Gamboa , Salvador Garcini, Benjamín Cann, José Ángel García, and Mafer Suárez. Due to his outstanding work in theater, film and television, Ignacio López Tarso has received more than 200 national and foreign prizes, and he has also worked in several countries such as Spain, the United States, Cuba, Peru, Santo Domingo, Colombia, San Salvador, among others. He has also ventured into the music industry by recording 8 LPs with 100 corridos.

Luis Estrada

He professionally started working in film industry as an assistant director, collaborating in more than twenty-five films for several directors, among which stand out: José Estrada, Felipe Cazals, José Luis García Agráz and Arturo Ripstein. Director, Writer and Producer of all his feature films, until now he has made: Camino Largo A Tijuana (1989), Bandidos (1991), Ámbar (1994), La Ley De Herodes (2000), Un Mundo Maravilloso (2006) and El Infierno (2010), the latter concludes his successful satirical trilogy about the social and political life of our country.

Some the most important distinctions and recognitions that he has obtained in Mexico are the following: 7 Ariel awards and 6 Silver Goddesses. Internationally, he has obtained more than thirty distinctions from film festival, among which stand out: Sundance, Havana, Toronto, Valladolid, Sitges, Los Angeles, New York, Amiens, etc. In addition to his cinematographic work, he is a partner and general director of the production company Bandidos Films, which is responsible for feature films and commercials, in which he works regularly.

Carlos Carrera

Interested in animated films since his upbringing in middle school. He studied Communication Sciences at the Universidad Iberoamericana and after completing his degree, he studied film production at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC), where he graduated in 1990. During the eighties he made several animated short films, that were madre in a completely independent fashion, which attracted attention for their exceptional quality.

The production contest for developing First Feature Films, established by the CCC, gave him the opportunity to make his debut in fiction films with La mujer de Benjamín. Despite the success he achieved with his feature films, Carrera did not abandoned the animated short films and in 1993, El héroe, a small film of just four minutes long, won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival; an award that only another mexican filmmaker had obtained, Emilio Fernández, in 1946. In 2003 his feature, El Crimen del Padre Amaro, was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars.

Maryse Sistach

Sistach is considered as of the main exponents of contemporary mexican cinema. She co-directed, along side José Buil, the film “La línea paterna”, an awarded documentary that in 1995 made her won three Ariel awards: Best Screenplay, Best Plot and Best Documentary. The film was also an official selection in the Venice Film Festival.

She directed the Spanish-French-Mexican co-production “El Cometa” (1997). During 2000 and 2006, Sistach worked on a film trilogy: “Perfume de violetas, (nadie te oye)“, 2000; “Manos libres (nadie te habla)“, 2004; “La niña en la piedra (nadie te ve)“, 2006. The three films deal with the complexity of socio-cultural problems that are related to male oppression, mainly those focusing around young women, and the influences of their education and daily living.

Pedro Armendáriz Jr.

Mexican actor and son of the actor Pedro Armendáriz. Pedro Armendáriz Jr. played a role in more than 140 movies, both in spanish and other languages: El crimen del padre Amaro (Carlos Carrera, 2002), Matando cabos (Alejandro Lozano, 2004), La ley de Herodes (Luis Estrada, 1999), Serafín, la película (René Cardona III, 2001), Estas ruinas que ves and Navidad S.A.. He was directed by great filmmakers of the likes of Julián Pastor in La casta divina; Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, in La pasión según Berenice; Gonzalo Martínez Ortega, in Longitud de guerra; and by Arturo Ripstein in Cadena perpetua.

In Hollywiid he worked in films such as:  the award-wining catastrophy production Terremoto  (1974; with Charlton Heston and Ava Gardner), Gringo viejo in 1989 (with Gregory Peck and Jane Fonda), Érase una vez en México in 2003 (with Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Johnny Depp) and in two movies about the character of El Zorro: La máscara del Zorro in 1998 and La leyenda del Zorro in 2005 (in both of them he was casted beside Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones).

María Novaro

María Novaro is the most transcendent and prolific director of mexican cinema. In 1980, she started her studies in Film Production at CUEC (Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos) and concluded them in 1985. During that period, she perfected her role as a director, screenwriter, editor, cinematographer and even as an actress by working in numerous short films.

Some of her most celebrated films are Lola, El jardín del edén and Danzón, which is considered as her master pierce and awarded her two ACE awards in the categories of Best Picture (1992) and Best Director (1992).

Héctor Bonilla

Héctor Bonilla, a man of theater and the screen, is perhaps the most versatile mexican actor in the XX century, an artist that bets for the unexpected and for change.

As an actor, director and producer, Bonilla has worked in numerous telenovelas and movies such as La Cosquilla, Viviana, Rosa Salvaje, Rojo amanecer, Una última y nos vamos and 7:19 La hora del temblor.

IMCINE 25 aniversario

Since 1983, the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE) has been working intensively, systematically and attentively in the development, encouragement and film production of our country.

Thanks to the lines of action promoted by IMCINE, short film projects have been crystallized and numerous feature films have also been co-produced. IMCINE is today part of our film landscape. It is an institution that is committed to ideas and talent.

Odiseo, Demián y Bruno Bichir

Ever since the so-called Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, there has not been, until now, a dynasty of actors such as the Bichir brothers (“Los Bichir”). Ever year,  they have invariably occupied the screens of cinema and television in Mexico, as well a great number of scenarios in the theater.

They are a trio of actors that, for years, have been busy showing us, through their characters, the best and worst sides of humanity. Los Bichir have established themselves as irreplaceable presences of the Mexican cinema.

Alejandro Galindo

Born in the city of Monterrey. Alejandro Galindo started his career in Hollywood as a translator for MGM and Columbia Pictures. He studied screenwriting at the Hollywood Institute of Scriptwriting and Photoplay. He wrote the screenplay for La Isla maldita, the first Mexican movie in color.

He stands out for his directorial work in films such as Campeón sin corona, Una familia de tantas and Espaldas mojadas.

Irma Lozano

Born in the city of Monterrey, México. She studied Dramatic Art in the Institute of Fine Arts. In 1963 she debuted in the play La luna es azul alongside Mauricio Garcés.

Through out more than 40 years of career, Irma Lozano stood out as an actress, singer, stage director and voice recording actress, specially recognized for her contribution in the television series Mi bella genio.

Icon of Mexican Cinema

Blanca Guerra

As an actress, she has worked in over 120 films, including: El imperio de la fortuna, Principio y fin and La reina de la noche, directed by Arturo Ripstein; Danzón, directed by María Novaro; Santa Sangre, directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky; among others. In television she has acted in eight soap operas, including: Valentina, La casa en la Playa, Alma de Hierro, Abismo de pasión and Tres veces Ana.

Her performances have earned her several prizes: four Ariel awards for Best Actress and two Ariel awards for Best shared Female performance; the Coral of Cuba for Best Supporting Actress; the Catalina of the Cartagena Festival for Best Actress; the ACPT Award for Best Actress for ¿Quién teme a Virginia Woolf?, the APT Award for Best Actress for La gaviota, among others. Blanca Guerra has been a member of the Jury at the film festival of Moscow, Huelva, Mar del Plata and Biarritz. She presided over the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (2013 – 2015). Since 2018, she is a member of the Hollywood Academy.

Diana Bracho

Diana Bracho made her professional debut in theater with the play Israfel written by Abelardo Rodríguez and directed by Héctor Azar. In 1973, she premiered in television with the series Les miserables and Mi primer amor; in cinema Bracho made her debut with the film El castillo de la pureza directed by Arturo Ripstein, a film that became an international success.

In television, she has starred in various series and soap operas such as Cuna de lobos, Cadenas de amargura, El vuelo del águila, Retrato de familia, El derecho de nacer, among others. She presided as the president of The Mexican Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences, AMACC (2002 – 2006).

Verónica Langer

She was born in Argentina; Langer graduated from the National School of Theater Arts of the National Institute of Fine Arts. On the big screen, she has participated in approximately thirty films. Three movies stand out in her filmography: Miroslava – a project that earned her an Ariel award in 1993 -, Novia que te vea and Cinco días sin Nora. The latter earned her Ariel nominations for best shared female performance.

She has also participated in Todo el poder, La orilla de la tierra and Hilda, which lead her to obtain the Best Actress Award at the Morelia International Film Festival in 2014.

Fernando Becerril

From a young age he always stood out due to his work in theater, which earned him a nomination for best male revelation in 1969, thanks to his performance in “Las bizarrías de Belisa“, original play by Calderón de la Barca and directed by Héctor Mendoza.

In cinema, he played roles in films like Arráncame la vida, Drama-Mex, El crimen del padre Amaro, Morirse en domingo, En el tiempo de las mariposas, Kilómetro 31, among others. UNESCO, through the International Theater Institute, recognized him in 2007 with the medal “My life in the theater” due to his outstanding histrionic career.

Angélica Aragón

Actress of cinema, theater and television. She is known for her performances in Mexican film productions such as Goitia, un dios para sí mismo (1988), Cilantro y perejil (1997), Sexo, pudor y lágrimas (1999) and El crimen del padre Amaro (2002). Aragón has also participated in American productions like Un paseo por las nubes (1995) y Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2002), among others. Furthermore, she has starred in mexican soap operas for example Vivir un poco (1985) and Mirada de mujer (1997).

She has been nominated for several Ariel awards and therefore Aragón has won in numerous occasions. In addition, she is a political activist both outside and inside the country. She has worked in favor of women (speaking against sexual abuse and always in favor of obtaining and promoting better working and socioeconomic conditions for women). She has signed many manifestos, along with many other figures in literature, film and from the world of mexican and international culture.

Emilio Echevarría

Senior mexican actor, Emilio Echevarría began his career in theater when he was 32 years old, he was invited by the company Circo, Maroma y Teatro. Among the works in which Echevarría has participated are Isabel de Inglaterra (1979), directed by José Luis Ibáñez; El luto embellece a Electra (1980),directed by of Dimitrio Sarrás; El tablero de las pasiones de juguete (1984), by Hugo Hiriart, and La expulsión (2011), directed by Luis de Tavira, and many others.

In cinema, Echevarría has performed in 31 films, some of the most recognized movies he has worked in are Desde el cristal (1984), by Maricarmen de Lara; Los pasos de Ana (1989), by Marisa Sistach; Morir en el Golfo (1989), by Alejandro Pelayo; Amores Perros (1999), by Alejandro González Iñárritu; Y tu mamá también (2000), by Alfonso Cuarón; El Álamo (2003), by John Lee Hancock; Babel (2005), by Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Colosio: el asesinato (2012), by Carlos Bolado.

Damián Alcázar

Alcázar has won more than ten international awards and has also made more than sixty films, such as La ley de Herodes (1999) and El infierno (2009), by Luis Estrada; El crimen del padre Amaro (2002), directed by Carlos Carrera, and  Bajo California: el límite del tiempo (1998) by Carlos Bolado.

He has also worked in soap operas such as Secretos del corazón, produced by Epigmenio Ibarra for TV Azteca. In April 2013, alongside José Coronado, he was awarded the Honor’s Prize of the Latin American Film Festival of Lleida. In 2016 he was nominated for the Platinum Awards for his performance in Magallanes, and in 2017 for La Delgada Línea Amarilla.

Silvia Pinal

She started her career in the theatre. In 1949 sher ventures into cinema. At the beginning of the decade of 1950, Pinal reached popularity by acting the roles of numerous supporting characters within the setting of the so-called Golden Age of Mexican cinema. In 1954, her role in the film Un extraño en la escalera, by Tulio Demicheli, consecrated her in the film industry. Her cinematographic work and popularity lead her to Europe (Spain and Italy). She achieved international recognition by starring in a famous film trilogy by director Luis Buñuel: Viridiana (1961), El ángel exterminador (1962) and Simón del desierto (1965) .

Besides her career in cinema, Pinal has also excelled in other areas. She was a pioneer of musical theatre in Mexico, in addition to venturing into television, soap operas, unitary and variety programs.

Héctor Suárez

Mexican actor and comedian who has worked in several films, plays, television series and soap operas. His career in Mexican cinema started in 1964, with the movie El asalto. Films such as Despedida de soltera, La mujer de a seis litros, La marcha de Zacatecas, Picardía mexicana o Mecánica nacional are part of his wide repertoire.

His early works in the soap opera genre were made in the 60s. Some of the telenovelas he has played a role are: Una segunda oportunidad, Velo de novia, Gotita de amor, El derecho de nacer, El carruaje, Las gemelas, El dolor de vivir and Madres egoístas, entre otras. He was recognized with the Ariel award for the film Mecánica Nacional. He also won three Diosas de Plata for his works in Trampas de amor, En la cuerda del hambre and El mil usos.

Ofelia Medina

Senior actress of film, television and theater, who in 50 years of trajectory has consolidated her career and has been considered one of the best actresses in Mexico. In cinema, she in inmortal, like her character: Frida Kahlo. Her professional debut in the artistic industry was with H3O, were she worked with Alejandro Jodorowsky.

In 1968, she debuted in the cinema with Pax?, by Wolf Rilla, on the occasion of the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. A year later, in 1969 she obtained her first leading role in cinema with Patsy, my love, by Manuel Michel. In the theatre, her most distinguished plays are Traición de Harold Pinter, La conspiración de la Cucaña, El Deseo de Víctor Hugo Rascón Banda, Cada quien su Frida and Íntimamente Rosario de Chiapas. She starred, wrote and directed these last two plays. She directed and also performed in the play La noche que jamás existió, by Humberto Robles. The play won the 2014 Emilio Carballido National Dramaturgy Award.

Arcelia Ramírez

Recognized for her wide and outstanding film career, being an exemplary part of the so-called New Mexican Cinema, appearing in films such as Cilantro y perejil (1998), No se aceptan devoluciones (2013), Jirón de Niebla (2013), Las horas contigo (2015), Verónica (2017), among others.

She has been nominated four times for the Ariel Award, two for the Best Actress award (1997, 2000) and two for best supporting actress award (2001 and 2003).

María Eugenia Llamas “La Tucita”

Mexican actress of the so-called Golden Age of Mexican cinema. She began her acting career at the age of 4, playing a role in the movie Los tres huastecos, starring Pedro Infante. This performance earned her a nomination to the Ariel award. The charismatic role of La Tucita was developed in the films Dicen que soy mujeriego (1949) y El seminarista (1949), both directed by Roberto Rodríguez and starred by Infante.

She learned the art of oral narration on stage and hence joined the group Los Cuenteros de Garzón. In 1987 she made her debut in Mexico City with her own show of oral narration and the poems Cuento con la vida. María Eugenia Llamas also participated in television series such as Gutierritos (1958) and Grandes finales de telenovelas (2010), as well as in the documentary ¡Pedro Infante vive! (2007), in which was narrated the memories and anecdotes of Pedro Infante, next to El ídolo de Guamúchil.
