OUR STORY

After five editions as the Voladero International Film and Video Festival, in 2005 the Monterrey International Film Festival was born.  Today it ranks as one of the most important in the north of the country. With strategic partners such as the Nuevo León Council for Culture and the Arts, the Ministry of Culture, the Autonomous University of Nuevo León and Cinépolis the festival takes place annually in the month of August.

In these 14 years the FIC Monterrey has reached 112 festival days, in which 2,789 films have been shown in 2,503 screenings. This speaks of a vibrant film community in Nuevo León – directors, producers, but above all, the public – that the festival serves and with which it is extremely committed, not only through a rich film offering that includes documentaries, animation and fiction, but also through the recognition of important personalities from the film industry and specialized events such as the 2nd KinoStartLAB and the 4th International Encounter of Women in Film.  The festival is betting for the training of filmmakers and the development of the film community, becoming a platform for new proposals and directors.

The FIC Monterrey has been able to communicate to thousands of visitors and filmmakers its belief that cinema is an art that transforms, a force for social change, understanding and peace. Currently, the Festival continues to grow, screening in many municipalities throughout the state, in different venues within and beyond the metropolitan area of Monterrey.

The Monterrey International Film Festival has established itself as an important part of the cultural life in the state, where every year the film community and general audiences come together to enjoy stories from all over the world, narrowing the distance to realities and characters both diverse and endearing.
